Sebastopol Geese

A beautiful breed and descendants of the Greylag Goose, Sebastopols carries the frizzle gene allowing curly feathering that makes this breed unique. Sebastopols have a docile and inquisitive temperment which makes them even more charming with their fluffy look and wonderful pets.

Feathers

Colors

Sebastopols have varieties in color with White being the current standard. Color varieties can be found in Grey, Buff, Blue, Lavendar, Cream and White. Saddleback patterns are also present.

Curl Variations

Sebastopols have both a smooth breasted and a curly variety . While most people prefer the curlies and the APA SOP leans towards the curly being more desirable, the smooth breasted variety have lovely wide feathers that can help improve curls if reintegrated into the breeding program. Unfortunately, mix breeds can also look similar to Smooth Breasted Sebastopols.

Quality

Feather quality can be impacted by various things. Genetics are the primary factor. Parents with curls will create curls in their goslings. Parents that are a mix of smooth and curly can produce a similar mix of smooth and curly.

Smooth breasted parents will only create smooth or smooth breasted sebastopols.

Quailty food, access to grass and fresh water for bathing all helps keep curls looking their best.

Expectations

Sebastopol geese can take years to get their best feathering.

Goslings can take between 3 and 6 months of age to show signs of curls and usually get better after each annual molt upto 3 years of age.
